Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the best time of year to do family portraits?

Late fall or early spring. Late fall and early spring are ideal for portraits thanks to cooler weather and softer natural light. If you’re planning to use photos for holiday cards, I recommend scheduling your session in October or early November. This allows plenty of time for editing, printing, and mailing without the stress and busyness of the holiday season.

2. What should I wear?

Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in! For families, choose a pallete of 2-3 colors (neutrals, earth tones, and blues are timeless!) and avoid bold/flashy patterns. Flowy pieces like skirts or jackets add beautiful movement to the portraits!

3. What if my kids are fussy/not cooperative during the session?

I go at the children's pace. This is why I recommend the hour long session for young families. We can take breaks, let them play, and capture sweet, candid pictures along the way! Eat beforehand and bring non-messy snacks (like gummies or crackers).

4. How long till I receive the final photos?

Sneak peek and selection gallery will be delivered within a week of your session! Final edited images will be finalized within three weeks of your session.

Frequently Asked Questions

5. Do you have a recommended printer?

To get the best results, I recommend using a professional or photo-focused printing service rather than quick one-hour labs. While places like Walgreens or CVS are convenient, they often don’t produce the color accuracy or sharpness that high-quality images deserve. Great online options include Shutterfly or FreePrints which are better equipped to handle professional-quality files and will give you more consistent, beautiful results.

6. Can I request specific poses or shots?

Of course! I want to make sure we capture your vision. I am happy to accommodate specific shot requests and LOVE getting inspo pictures from you!

7. Can we meet before the session?

Absolutely! I’m always happy to set up a phone or video call before your session so we can get to know each other. Building a connection is one of my favorite parts of photography, and I love taking the time to make sure you feel comfortable, confident, and excited going into your shoot.

8. Can I bring props?

Yes, absolutely! Props are always welcome. If you plan to bring any, I appreciate a quick heads-up beforehand so I can plan accordingly. Especially for senior sessions, I love incorporating items that highlight your passions, interests, and journey—it makes your photos even more meaningful and personal.
